Found quilts, plinth frames, silicon midwifery training products

Held with Volume is a sculpture series created as part of my residency with Limbs & Things in 2023.

The work uses found quilts to upholster three plinths, their sizes dictated by the geometric quilt patterns resulting in a distinctly human scale. Sun-bleached and soft with many washes, the plinths stand as a group of three still smelling of their previous owners' washing powder. These intimate objects hold silicone training products from Limbs & Things: a nest of rubbery placentas with umbilical cords trailing over the quilted edges; a limbless baby waiting for their remaining parts to be added; and at eye height, two back to back vulvas offering their own observations onto the world.
